Mountain biking in Tyler TX

Tyler Parks and Recreation and the Tyler Bicycle Club run Ride the Four Pedals of the Rose — four official trail systems. Ride all four and you can claim a free decal.

Ride the Four Pedals of the Rose is a Tyler Parks and Recreation and Tyler Bicycle Club initiative. The four designated trails are Lindsey Park, Faulkner Park, Tyler State Park, and UT Tyler.

Complete all four and submit the form on tylerparksandrec.com for a free “I Rode the Four Pedals of the Rose” decal. Official maps are on the city’s Ride the 4 Pedals of the Rose page: https://www.tylerparksandrec.com/Programs-Athletics/Programs/Ride-the-4-Pedals-of-the-Rose

Lindsey Park is at 12557 Spur 364 W., Tyler, TX 75709. It has 15 miles of trails for biking, hiking, and walking. In 2019 the Mountain Bike Trail Project named it a Top Ten Trail in Texas. The park is open daily sunrise to sunset; trails run 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Softball, soccer, basketball, a playground, picnic areas, and three 18-hole disc golf courses are also on site. Call (903) 531-1370. The trail map PDF is on the city site.

Faulkner Park is at 410 W. Cumberland Rd., Tyler, TX 75703. About 9 miles of nature trails. Thunderstruck, a jump line of five downhill jumps, opened December 5, 2021. Tyler Bicycle Club built it.

The city’s Four Pedals page says the backmost trail at Faulkner is currently closed. You can still ride the rest. Park hours are sunrise to sunset; trails 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. There’s also a skate park, a sprayground (summer 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., timer), tennis, a fishing pond, and a playground. Same parks number: (903) 531-1370.

Tyler State Park sits just north of Tyler. Texas Parks and Wildlife lists more than 10 miles of woodland trails in connected loops — EZ, A, B, C, and D. EZ is the easy warmup. C and D are the hard ones: roots, switchbacks, and steep pitches.

On multiuse trails, bikers ride clockwise and hikers go counter-clockwise. Some trails are hiking-only — Blackjack Nature, Lakeshore, and Whispering Pines. Don’t bike those. A day-use fee applies; check the current amount at tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/tyler. Call ahead. Trails can close.

UT Tyler Trails are at 3900 University Blvd. The city’s 2021 trail brochure lists 4+ miles of natural trail. UT Tyler operates them. They’re one of the Four Pedals.

Rose City Cycling Club and Tyler Bicycle Club exist for weekly rides. Ask the clubs for the current schedule — we don’t list ride times here.

Are the city trails free?

Lindsey Park, Faulkner Park, and UT Tyler don’t charge a trail fee. Tyler State Park does — check TPWD for the current day-use amount before you go.
