The 82-acre Nature Center was developed from a former game bird hatchery into an ecological education center. A visitor's center, indoor and outdoor classrooms, wetlands, grasslands and ponds provide a natural setting for area birds and animals. The facility and surrounding lands are available for use by instructors or other outdoor enthusiasts. Noble E. Young Skate Park was dedicated by the Tyler City Council and Tyler Parks & Recreation Board on October 24, 1998. Since its opening the skate park has been one of Tyler’s most popular parks. Mr. Gipson has designed the Oak Hurst course to appeal and challenge all levels of golfers. Oak Hurst has 5 sets of teeing areas so the golfer can pick the length of course that best fits them. The Oak Hurst course was featured in the Dallas Morning News article “Diamonds in the Rough”, which spotlighted great golf courses around the state of Texas that are not in metropolitan areas. Oak Hurst has also been awarded “Best Public Golf Course” by the readers of B-Scene magazine and the voters of Locals Love Us.com. Oakwood Cemetery

Established in 1849, Oakwood Cemetery is a Texas Historic Cemetery as well as the oldest city-owned cemetery in Tyler. As a public, city cemetery, it is maintained by the Tyler Parks Department. It covers approximately 8-1/2 acres and has over 2000 marked graves. The natural beauty of Oakwood's majestic Magnolia trees, pine trees and dogwood trees and in the Spring-bluebonnets, set the background for glorious walks through history. To enter, use the gate on Ellis Street. In the center of the cemetery, a kiosk holds information pamphlets that explain all there is to see and know about Oakwood.
