Welcome to Lake Tyler!View from a waterside park at Lake Tyler in East Texas Lake Tyler (or Lake Tyler West) and Lake Tyler East are located adjacent to each other, connected via a canal. Situated just east of Tyler, Texas, these are the largest lakes in the area in addition to Lake Palestine. Ownership by the City of Tyler Lake Tyler functions as a major recreational center for the area, and as a supply of drinking water for the City of Tyler. The Lake Tyler Department of the City of Tyler maintains the park areas adjacent to the lake. The rules and regulations for Lake Tyler and Lake Tyler East are outlined in Chapter 19, Article VI of the City of Tyler Code of Ordinances. Characteristics of the LakesLake Tyler (West), built in 1949, covers 2,224 surface acres and serves as the major source of water supply to the Tyler metro area. Lake Tyler (East), completed in 1966, covers an additional 2,276 acres. The maximum depth of the lakes is 40 feet, and the average depth is about 17.6 feet. The conservation pool elevation is 375 feet above mean sea level. Fluctuation is about 2 feet.

Legacy Trail

Legacy Trail, officially opened in July 2019, is the newest trail to the City of Tyler. The 4.5 mile trail is 10 foot wide concrete and runs on the eastern and western sides of Old Jacksonville Highway, running Toll 49 and continuing toward Flint. The trail is situated on the Old Cotton Belt train route which was instrumental in the growth of East Texas. Future plans for this trail include a possible extension northward to the South Tyler Trails linking Rose Rudman Recreational Trail. Open daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. The trail begins off of W. Cumberland near Faulkner Park across from Cherryhill Drive with a trail head located at the entrance to Three Lakes Parkway off of Old Jacksonville Highway, south of FRESH by Brookshires. Following the trial from this point southwest will lead you past Toll 49 towards Flint.

The Oak Hurst course was designed by famed golf course designer, Carlton Gipson. Gipson has designed many great golf courses throughout the country. Mr. Gipson has designed the Oak Hurst course to appeal and challenge all levels of golfers. Oak Hurst has 5 sets of teeing areas so the golfer can pick the length of course that best fits them. The Oak Hurst course was featured in the Dallas Morning News article “Diamonds in the Rough”, which spotlighted great golf courses around the state of Texas that are not in metropolitan areas. Oak Hurst has also been awarded “Best Public Golf Course” by the readers of B-Scene magazine and the voters of Locals Love Us.com.
